From one to twelve cows, we have had the blessing of a sharp learning curve of the ups and downs of the host of issues involved with owning a
family milk cow. Just because a cow did well on a commercial dairy, does not mean it will make it on the family farm and become an integral part of your family. Many of the people whom we help, but not all, have a family with several children of varied ages. They need a cow who is familiar with children and handled by children. Our children spend many hours with each of the cows we offer for sale to make sure they are exposed to a host of situations and people. While many of the cows in the above photos are not for sale, these photos give you a brief glimpse of the caliber of animals that we have available from time to time.
We also can assist you with determining the milking style that may best suit your purposes and needs. Hand milking, Machine milking, Belly Milker, Floor Milker, NuPulse, Milking Stanchion....and the list goes on and on. We try to help you evaluate what is best for you and your family even if it means that a
milk cow is not the best thing at this time in your life. Many of our Family Cow customers spend many evenings and mornings in our milking parlor with us learning how to milk their cow (and all our others) before they actually take their cow home. This takes a lot of stress and tension off of the "new cow owner".
Owning and caring for a family milk cow often requires changes to the family schedule. We help you take a realistic look at these issues and give you hands on experience of the entire ownership and milking process. If milking the cow was all that was involved, everyone would do it. You'll get to observe and participate in feed preparation, bringing the cows in, properly cleaning them for milking, stripping them after milking, checking for signs of mastitis, turning them out, handling the milk and the list goes on and on.
